The end of the Legacy Items?

There were many low toughness characters in the DPS rankings that were swapping the gear to the legacy just to get higher ranks in DiabloProgress, so we've decided to not count characters legacy gear.

Btw, items with reduced level requirement seem to be counted as legacy items, even if they are 70ish.

Diabloprogress rankings are not credible, i.e. workarounds to get a higher position messes things up. This, additionally, has made it worse. Legacy items are items too, and they are made by the makers of the game, so using them should be fair. What instead you could do, is to set up a basic algorithm, much simpler than what you already have done here. Set a range of Profile DPS, generate a score. So the same for toughness and healing, get a median of these numbers and generate a score, the rank players according to this. Call this "Viability" or something. That will show whether the char can really play the game, and ranking workarounds would be invalidated. You guys had something like that before am I wrong?

This is rather hard to do, seeing as different skill builds, group compositions, and play styles can greatly affect a character's viability. Beyond that, many low/mid-tier players swap gear depending on the abilities of the elite pack.

Could you at least include them in the profile damage and calculations and just ban em from the toplists instead.

i for example have not found an upgrade to my lvl 60 2.0 cindercoat and i don't wanna be excluded just for that. even tho its lvl 60 its still a 2.0 item that is miles better then anything else i could find except a lvl 70 version.

But i guess its hard to separate pre 2.0 and post 2.0 legendaries.

if your goal is to have a balanced ranking system, then factor in toughness into a new heroscore. These Dps ladders have always been about just that....DPS. Historically, this site allowed legacy items. I don't think this was the wisest of choices.

"low toughness characters in the DPS rankings"
Any monk have "low toughness" because they have passives like "One With Everthing" and "Size the Intitiative".
I have a 2m dps monk, but now he is no longer listed because of "legacy items excluded" (= Elemental Elite DPS: 0).
I like diabloprogress, does a great job. So pls fix. :-)

    Thanks for the feedback.
In general I would like to prevent gear swapping for DiabloProgress rankings.
I've changed the updater so that currently only 3 legacy items are excluded: Zunimassa's Journey, Inna's Temperance and The Witching Hour.

Why The Witching Hour? So many people still use that at level 70 because nothing else beats it until you get a level 70 Witching Hour. And they are INSANELY rare.

The reason for this that the website should cater for the latest version / expansion of the game. New players to Diablo 3 will be at an instant disadvantage because they never had the chance to farm a vanilla witching hour, or any other legacy pieces.

Fully support and agree with the decision.

I think a better solution is to UNLIST profiles with legacy gear, but still calculate the DPS. I use this site a lot to compare gear. If something lowers my DPS but raises elemental dmg, I'd like to see how much of a benefit I get from it.

Guess I'll have to wait a week or two until I actually get a 70 WH (assuming I do) to start using this site again =\

this leaderboard needs 2 things, otherwise you will se in top 10, people with 1m toughness..... which is laughable.

    1) include toughness in whole emelental DPS.
    2) include +% skill (the most stacked on items).

And the legacy SoJ? the -5hota and -CA cost are so good that are very viable and better than using a perfect ROS trifecta.
A possible legacy quadri or pentafecta is a lot better than any ammy or ring now and then will not have any toughness loss

I suggest to think about it a little more, Legacy whiching hour is something what not used for higher ranking only, several characters cannot get better belt.

I suggest to exclude items with % elemental damage (but for example my legacy v2 Zunimassa boots just changed on my WD, so I used it not for high ranking.

Anyway don't forget Legacy Tal Rasha Amulet too.

Suggestion #1 exclude all from the first wave of legacy items and all legacy items with % elemental damage

Suggestion #2 exclude all legacy items without whiching hour

I think #1 is better coz some palyers still use legacy Natalya set's 2 piece for 7% chc (good option with the 3 piece of 2.0 version.

Likewise people can't easily get those legacy items any more. So since it is an arbitrary score who cares if it only includes items obtainable in the game now?

The bottomline is many if not all classes get higher realistic dps out of set bonuses, so this ELE/ELITE score is nonsense.

I don't see any point in this change. If you're going to score based on just one aspect of a character (in this case, DPS) then anything that buffs DPS should be valid. It's already a meaningless rank anyways.

If you want this site to have an actual relevant ranking system, then you need to come up with some sort of aggregate score that factors in more than just one factor (DPS). Heroscore sort of did this but was weighted poorly, PVP score had the same issue but in reverse. It can't be that hard to find a middle ground that fairly scores a character based on both damage potential and defenses.

Until that happens, any changes you make to the one dimensional score serve no real purpose.

Huh i thought this site is called "progress"... To bad i did not buy Inna's Temperance for 50kg before ah was closed. Too bad. It gonna be hard to get to top 20 world Elemental elite dps;/ This make me sad. Someone could get perf gear and other guy will have Inna's Temperance, but only near perf gear and will be higher than the Perf gear guy;/. Sorry for bad English ;p
Blizzard! Make something as good as Inna's Temperance for this slot. For Example 500 main stat 5-7as?

diabloprogress.com dps-rankings are worthless in general to me, because most top100 characters are not playable above any difficulty. Thats just riddiculous. It would be great to design an algorithm that also considers toughness... in this state a good dps-ranking is just an epeen. Nothing worth looking for.

I don't see what the problem is. I don't give a crap about low toughness, I can viably play t6 in both solo and group play with my inna's pants and legacy witching hour without "gear swapping." I use Inna's pants because of the attack speed, buffing prodigy for more meteor spam. I can survive just fine with the less vit/int from a new pair of pants with proper kiting and positioning, and that's what makes the game fun for me. Not everyone is "stat-padding" by gear swapping just because they're wearing inna's/wh. This entire issue shouldn't even be an issue. And to those saying "oh top 100 can't even survive above normal/t1" obviously don't understand that things die before you even get hit at this level, it's end game, an extra 400 vit on a pair of pants won't matter for 100% of the playerbase once everyone maxes paragon anyways, and then everyone will be back to using inna's, except for the people that prefer playing with 4set, because those add elements of "fun."

There is a bug with your current algorithm. The top two Wizards in Americas still wear Inna's pants (legacy) to boost their DPS. In the meanwhile, I noticed some players using Skorn to boost their critical damage. Please fix the bug to ensure fairness to other players.

Fire mages are viable with Mirrorball or Woh but with the D3progess gear they are glass.. not fun to play when u die all the time... So d3progress is a unless competition chart... I have 2x MULES in the top 25 elemental/elite dmg... they are mules, i am not dumb enough to play those chars... but it tops the charts on here and ppl think it means something, so let them think it means something..
